About Us
John Barker is one of the town's residents and is a useful man to know.
Not only is John the owner of Barnyard Backpackers but he's an electrician, deer hunter, as well as husband and father.
An eternal optimistic with more stories than you can shake a stick at, just give him a cup of tea and a cake and he'll be your best friend!
Did I also mention that John built the hostel and all of the cabins from his own designs?
Inge Barker has changed her focus in the last few years. Previously the main hostel manager, Inge now works part-time as a nurse in Invercagill & offers the new manager the day off when she returns to Te Anau.
Inge settled in New Zealand after meeting John in her native Holland.
Strong on faith & with a good heart she makes a great friend - just don't ask her to play 'Boggle' with you unless you want to lose!
